August 8-10, 2018 (7th grade)
Wednesday- Students will fill out a Student Interest Inventory.
Thursday- Students/parents will complete a handout. Students will write a five paragraph essay.
Friday- Students will receive the syllabus for the year. We will go over classroom rules and expectations. Students will bring home the syllabus and parents are asked to read over it. The last page of the syllabus should be signed and returned tomorrow. Students will receive a 100 score for filling out and returning the form on Thursday. They will receive an 80 for returning it signed on Friday. If they return it on Monday they will receive a 60. I take off 20 points each day an assignment is late. Students will create name plates.
August 13- 17, 2018 (7th grade)
Monday- Students should turn in the last page of the syllabus signed both by the student and a parent. Students will receive spelling words. They are to write them NOT type them 10x each and turn them in on Friday before their spelling test. Students will begin working on Article of the Week #1.

Wednesday- Students should receive all of their textbooks today. We will begin our first classroom novel. Students should have their classroom journal notebook by Friday.
Thursday- Achieve 3000 Students will go to the computer lab and complete their first Achieve 3000 article.
Homework- Finish and study spelling words in preparation for the test tomorrow.
Friday- Spelling test. Students will complete a Getting to Know you handout.
August 20- 24, 2018 7th grade
Monday- Article of the week "Our Plastic Oceans". Students should mark their confusion, show evidence of close reading and write a 1 page reflection. They should fill out their triangle graphic organizer.
Homework- Work on AOW and study Vocabulary.
Tuesday- We will read Gilly Hopkins and students will have 20 minutes to work on AOW.
Homework- finish Article of the week it is due tomorrow
Wednesday- We will visit the book fair in the Media center.
Students will have time to work on Chomps 12-15.
Homework- finish vocabulary sentences before the test on Friday.

August 27-31, 2018
Monday- Students will receive the new article of the week, "The Rise of Ticks". They will have most of the period to work on it. It should be fully annotated and turned in on Wednesday. No Spelling or Vocabulary words this week.
Homework- work on AOW# 3 and read AR biography book
Tuesday- We will go over article of the week and peer edit. Students were given their first book report rubric today. They were assigned a specific date starting next week 9/5-9/10 for their interview. It is a 200 point project.
Wednesday- Students will read the next two chapters in Gilly Hopkins and draw a picture of how they actually see Gilly.
Homework- Chomp #21-22 and read AR book
Thursday- Achieve 3000

Friday- Students will work in their journal on new vocabulary terms and comprehension questions from our class novel.
August 27-31, 2018- 8th grade

Thursday- Students will go to the computer lab for Achieve 3000.
Homework- Study for Vocabulary test tomorrow. All words/definitions/sentences are due tomorrow before the test.
Friday- Vocabulary test and reading of our class novel.
Tuesday- Students will be given an article entitled "The Science of Writers Block". They will read and summarize the article.

Wednesday- Students will fill out a graphic organizer with main points of the article and connections to the main ideas.
Friday- we will begin Chomps. These are an integral part of my class because they cover all of the 7th grade English Language Arts Georgia Performance standards. Students will have Chomps all year. They should be kept organized in their notebook.

Wednesday- Students will begin sketching out and prewriting personal information to include in their Meet The Student flyer. Students should finish the flyer. It should include a paragraph for each of the following: 1. Basics- personal and family life 2.) Future/Educational goals 3.) Favorites (this can be a list of at least 8-10) 4. Topic of choice - Students can choose to write about anything that they are passionate about. (Animal safety, Music, Sports, Politics, Religion, World Peace, etc.) It should be typed,in paragraph form and colorful.

Thursday- Students will read and summarize a NEWS ELA article.

Wednesday- Students will be grouped for a Grammar project. They will have the class period to work with their group. They will be given a rubric. We will begin research in the computer lab. Students should bring their flash drive with them today and tomorrow.
Homework- Read AR (rubrics for first book report will be given at the end of next week) and work on Grammar project Chomps # 18-19
Thursday- Students will work in groups on their project. We will review Chomps.

Friday- Students will read their AR book silently and take their spelling test.

Grammar Zoo Project (200 Points) is due the week of September 4, 2017. Groups will be assigned a specific date but we will present in order#1-11. Make sure your group writes down their correct due date. (2 groups per day will present)
- You are to create a mascot and teach the class about your specific part of speech. Your presentation should be interactive…quizzes and or games. If you create a quiz you must have enough to pass out to the class. Your peers should be able to identify your part of speech when your group is finished. Your presentation should last 20 minutes.
- One person in your group should dress up as your mascot on the day of your presentation. I have provided you with past mascot pictures. I have high expectations.
- A Poster board(s) should be created to show and describe your mascot. It should be visually appealing! Neat, clean, easy to read, and colorful. You were shown examples in class from previous years.
- Your part of speech or grammar topic should be well defined and easy to read. Examples of your part of speech using sentences must be clear and concise. Refer to your BRMS Grammar and Writing A Ready Reference!
